Growing Instructions
Cucumbers thrive in warm, sunny conditions, and Max Pack is no exception. Sow or transplant after the last frost when soil has warmed (at least 65°), and choose a spot with full sun and rich, well-draining soil. The vigorous vines of Max Pack can sprawl or be trained up a trellis to save space and keep fruits straight and clean. Give each plant about 12"-24" of space or a trellis rung to climb. Keep the soil evenly moist to get the best, non-bitter fruits.
Harvest, Storage, and Use
Max Pack cucumbers are ready to pick about 50–60 days after planting, once they reach about 3"–5" long and a rich green color. Harvest by gently twisting or snipping the stem with scissors. Frequent picking encourages the plant to set more fruit, ensuring a continuous bounty.
These cucumbers shine in the kitchen for homemade pickles: use them for classic dill pickling, bread-and-butter chips, or even ferment them into half-sours. They can also be used fresh since their skin is thin and their flesh is crisp, making them great for salads, snacks with dip, or slicing into sandwiches. For storage, un-pickled cucumbers stay fresh about a week in the refrigerator.
👍 Good companions | Peas, beans, corn, and lentils (enrich soil with nitrogen and can act as living trellises or shade), root crops like radishes, beets, carrots, and onions, oregano, dill, chives, marigolds and nasturtiums (repel pests), sunflowers (serve as living trellises and boost pollination), garlic (reduces soil-borne wilt disease), lettuce and celery (have similar water needs but don't compete)
👎 Bad companions | Potatoes (compete for nutrients), aromatic herbs like sage, basil, and rosemary (can stunt growth and affect flavor), mint, melons (competes for nutrients), fennel and eucalyptus (inhibit growth), and other squash family members like pumpkins and zucchini (shared pests)
